Rage is yet another post-apocalyptic game that takes place in a world similar to the movie Mad Max and for some player will look like Fallout 3 and Borderlands. The graphics have been done amazingly and the landscape vast and also nice to look at while playing the game. This is also one of those RP games that can be considered a little lacking for depth of storyline. The game consists of 3 duel layer discs each one containing an aspect of the game that will need to be loaded once you get to the end of a disc. The first time you play the game it is suggested that you load the three disc set directly to your console (22GB) to get better performance and graphics.
Rage is heavily focused on combat and most of the game consists of the player doing different things for others and gaining rewards. Some people have reported that the game can be beaten within 10hours and that is a let down. For such an RPG one would like to think that it has a playability rate to come back to once in a while, but players have also said that one play and they sold it. Rage does not play anything like Fallout 3 or Borderlands and for the most part weapons are limited and the accuracy and realism of the weapons is completely limited to multiple shots to kill a target. This can become annoying during gameplay as the rewards from looting sometimes don't make up for the amount of time spent killing a group.
The game does offer a multiplayer mode that can be both fun and non-consistent with other games with such modes in them. Rage does not give a heavy challenge in the MP mode of the game and this is why you wont find a lot of players if you are looking to jump into a multiplayer game of Rage.
The Storyline
Rage takes place in the year 2029 after the Apophis Asteroid impacts with Earth and kills much of its population. Your character wakes up in an Ark which was used to bury VIP'S deep underground in hopes of rebuilding the planet after the destruction the asteroid would cause. Your character when awakened does realize that he is the only survivor of his ark as it malfunctioned and killed the rest of the patrons within. Most of the world is now populated by survivors who have formed communities and fight to survive everyday in hopes of rebuilding the world or at least a piece of it.
The story of the game pretty much is the player helps out everyone and gets them what they want in order to get things he needs. You use a vehicle to travel from place to place exploring the world and doing things, players might find this a little aggravating as a lot of what the character is asked to do is repeated over and over. Enemies will respawn if you need to head back to a location that you previously cleared out and you will have to do it again. The Authority is the bad entity in the game and the ark survivor must help find a way to stop them as the story progresses. The one aspect of the game that can be considered to be a realistic part of it is the Apophis Asteroid which is an earth orbiting asteroid predicted to impact earth in 2019 and cause mass devastation and death.
Other than the reference to the Apophis Asteroid the game completely takes a different route and only offers a few actual RP elements like the weapons select, an engineering skill and nothing much more.
Final Thoughts
As I have been playing Rage, I have noticed that the game is slow to start but does have a lot of action in it which can offer some fun. It will take a little time to get used to the controls of the game and once learned and mastered like any game it is second nature. Rage has a playability rate of one or two more times after beating it the first time just to earn more achievements but after that it is either going to find itself on your shelf of sold to your local game store.
I am a little disappointed in the game as I was expecting something nice and indepth being that it is published by Bethesda and it is the return game for ID Software. Not much in the turn of content or much spending on it, if the game would have played like Fallout 3 or Fallout 3: New Vegas it would keep you entranced for hours and hours. Now for anyone who is looking for a shooter with a good backdrop on world, than this is going to be the game for you as long as you stray from the main quests and jump into every side quest you can gather around.

I rented this game and wasn't really crazy about it. The graphics and animation were amazing, but the appeal kind of ended there for me. I know a lot of people loved it, though. I just have a diffrent taste, I guess.
