Film Remakes: Are They all solely out of greed? Is Money What Matters More?
70
Film Remakes have all become to common recently with all the recently released movies being re-done into something that is the same with a little additional footage or length. If you look back over the past four years you might wonder how much money has been spent on reboots of films This can be due to the fact that Hollywood is getting greedy and wants to see more money from franchises that have already made it big. Many movies that you see coming out today few will be originals and the vast majority of them will be reboots.
If you are looking to spend your money on these films you should take into consideration if k;you have already seen the movie and know the story, would you want to spend money on something that you have seen or own the DVD to? A lot of what we have seen recently is the fact that money is playing a big role in it all and for that Hollywood keeps giving fans the samething over and over. None-the-less we still have movies coming out that are not remakes and that might save Hollywood.
Hollywood and Greed?
If you look at the stats and how much Hollywood has made off movies such as Spider-Man, the X-men and other more popular movies you can see the million of dollars that they have brought in. Remakes of movies bring in the same amount if not more and on a business sense the best movie to do is capitalize on what is already popular. Greed does play a role in this you see it in the price of tickets at the theaters they have gone up over the past few years from $6.50 to almost $11.00 in some places. The marketing for big movies like clothings, books, bags, and now even games has brought in a big amount of revenue.
So yes I would say that Hollywood is re-making movies out of greed for the sake of making big money and not having to pay out much to writers to write anything new. This decline though could also have a set-back on the movie industry as many people are going to get tired of seeing movies they already seen.
Final Thoughts
Remakes can sometimes be nice to see, though when they redo a movie multiple times it becomes a little old. Personally I can wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray/DVD and watch it at home for the single price of the disc. Hollywood has been making millions for years from the money of consumers and for them to give us the same movie over and over just to make a buck on it is like buying a video game and having to buy that same video game a few months later because it was remade with an extra cut-scene.

It makes sense to do remakes/reboots. They already have an established fan base, so there are good chances of making a profit.

I really like how you've written this, and an excellent conclusion which truly brought out the defensive gamer in me. The part where you say, "....it is like buying a video game and having to buy that same video game a few months later because it was remade with an extra custscene", really made me think. Is that what George Lucas is doing with the Star Wars franchise? These so-called remasters are just bumps in a forum thread, yet they get so much attention like they've never existed before. Voted up ^^
