Call of Duty: World at War- Nazi Zombie Map Review
72Call of Duty: World at War opened up an all new "Franchise" for the already established and popular Call of Duty franchise. A Mini mode in the game that started out as nothing more than a bonus and took off like a wild fire. 'Nazi ' Zombies is where it started with Nacht Der Untoten which was a simple map and the smallest Zombie map to date. For anyone who is deeply into Call of Duty: World at War Nazi Zombies will follow the storyline in each map building on it and learning what took place. From the time of Verruckt up to Shangri-La the storyline has expanded into something that opens the doors for a Zombie game of it's own.
Many players have asked that a Call of Duty: Zombies game be released with a multiplayer and solo game. Though no answers have ever been given about a game of it's own for the mini mode, the possibility to a no answer is because Activision sells more map packs for Black OPS with one zombie map attached to each.
As zombies grow on popularity new and larger maps are released, new wonder weapons are created and new zombies take shape. Hardcore 'Nazi ' Zombie players know never to open up every door on the map as this will give you no place to hold up.
Some would say that 'Nazi ' Zombies took off in ways that even Treyarch never thought, giving light to a new storyline to add to their games library and creation. With the coming zombie maps comes new and interesting wonder weapons and locations, building on the backdrop of one of Americas most loved type of monster.
Any true fan of the mini mode will appreciate the original maps and serious fans will go back to play them on and off as the game mode grows. New players should experience the original maps as well, they offer more insight into what took place and give players the chance to learn about the game.
Nacht Der Untoten
With this map only having three rooms in it and the spawn area being set on the first floor with five windows to protect to start. The original zombies on Nacht Der Untoten were weaker than the zombies that came after. The walking dead found on this map also did not reach through the windows to attack making it easier for players to guard.
Nacht Der Untoten does not include any perks, being the first in the series. Rumors have it that due to this map being nothing more than an added bonus for beating World at War, Nacht Der Untoten has nothing to do with the storyline that was formed in Verruckt and built on for all the other zombie modes.
This version of the map on Call of Duty: Black OPS featured more advanced zombies, which reached through the windows. All the power up icons instead of the words in the original version. In order to get this map on Call of Duty: Black OPS players had to purchase the hardened version of Black OPS.
Just announced by Treyarch the fourth and final Map Pack for Call of Duty: Black OPS is coming August 23, 2011 to XBOX Live First. This is an all Zombie map pack and will feature the four original maps and a new one called 'Moon'. This MP also includes a new soundtrack with three never before released songs and a new theme. For anyone who purchased the Hardened or Prestige Edition will receive Rezurrection MP for free.
Verruckt, Home of the Insane
Verruckt was released in the first map pack for Call of Duty: World at War and the storyline for the 'Nazi' Zombies game started to take shape. With the introduction of Perk Machines and wonder weapons, Verruckt soon became an instant hit.
The zombies of this map are more dangerous due to reaching through windows to attack, they were slightly faster in higher levels and the map was larger then it's predecessor. This is the first map to require the power to be turned on in order to get the perks, making it a slightly more challenging map for players. Verruckt is an interesting map to play on and gives players enough room to last longer rounds.
With Verruckt players were separated into twos behind a door that needed to be opened with the power turned on. For the most part in order to make it into higher levels players would only open one side of the map and leave the other closed. This strategy worked well with players who knew the map and were serious about making it up in levels.
Shi No Numa
Shi No Numa changed the backdrop of the game with the addition of Japanese zombies and a larger piece of the puzzle. This map contains five main buildings with the surrounding buildings containing a random perk machine spawn. No electric to turn on, just opening of doors to access the secondary buildings.
The mystery box normally spawns on the first floor of the main building, making players purchase one of two access points to get it. This is also the first map to introduce the dogs, or Hell Hounds into the game and the first to have a zip-line. Shi No Numa also is the first map to give players identities of the characters. Shi No Numa; offers players the chance to get out of the main building and move around the map.
Though this also opens up more waves of zombies, this is still one of the more better maps in the original series. Shi No Numa was released in Map Pack 2 for Call of Duty: World at War.
Tips
- When playing any of the Zombie maps remember to use teamwork above all.
- Do not hog the Mystery Box, everyone will need a good weapon
- Always revive a downed player, at least two players should be near a down teammate as one to revive and the other to protect.
- Always use the wall as your friend when the Hell Hounds spawn, never allow them to get behind you.
- Bouncing Betties are your friend
Der Riese, The Zombie Factory
Der Riese is the final 'Nazi' Zombie map to be released for Call of Duty: World at War and was in the final map pack. Der Riese is the first map where the zombies could climb up areas and jump down towards characters. This is also the first map to introduce the Pack-A-Punch machine and a teleporter and the second map in the original series that required power to be turned on.
This is also the map that introduced the monkey bomb and Bowie knife, the second map to bring in the Hell Hounds. Der Riese also is the first map that spawns the hell hounds with the zombies sometime after round 16. Der Riese is a large map with many different areas, offering players the chance to explore and find new parts of the 'Nazi' Zombie storyline.
Final Thoughts
Call of Duty: World at War was the beginning of the 'Nazi' Zombie maps, it gave players a mode like no other and a storyline that offers players the chance to keep learning. Zombies as the game is now referred to is also the only game to draw in so many players right off the start. Though as a suggestion if you have never played the World at War 'Nazi' Zombie maps it is well worth the purchase just to experience the origins of the mini mode.
With the release of Call of Duty: Black OPS players have even more maps to explore and play, though nothing will replace the original and hopefully one day soon, Treyarch will allow players who do not have the hardened or Prestige edition of Call of Duty: Black OPS to get the original map packs to play with on Black OPS.
With Call of Duty: Black OPS players are also given a new zombie style to play called Dead OPS Arcade or DOA. This put players into a game mode with a top view and unlimited ammo, same idea to survive unlimited hordes of zombies but it also put players against a silver-back boss.
The Call of Duty Zombies is a true legacy (: although i hate CoD Multiplayer xD none the less Zombies=forever! :D
